“Sooner or later will dawn the day
When you must forfeit your precious field;
Gather, O mind, what fruit you may.”
Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa Deva represents the very core of the spiritual realizations of the seers and sages of India. He reached a depth of God-consciousness that transcends all time and place and has a universal appeal. Seekers of God of all religions feel irresistibly drawn to his life and teachings. Religion is not just a matter for study, it is something that has to be experienced and to be lived, and this is the field in which Sri Ramakrishna manifested his uniqueness… Sri Ramakrishna faithfully practiced the spiritual disciplines of different religions and came to the realization that all of them lead to the same goal. In the present-day world, threatened by divisive strife and religious intolerance, Sri Ramakrishna's message of harmony and his belief in serving Man in order to serve God gives us hope and shows the way.
SRI RAMAKRISHNA FOR YOU is a concise but comprehensive and profusely illustrated compilation of his timeless sayings, teachings and conversations along with recollections of his contemporaries and disciples and tributes from his admirers all of whom have been phenomenal thought leaders from across the world.
The reason that has whet my desire and interest to write this book - Thakur Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa Deva had delivered a gospel of strength with which human beings can overpower the thousand and one frailties of worldly existence. In his sociology or metaphysics of values Jiva (man) =Siva (GOD). The formulation of this equation by Sri Ramakrishna enables us to establish an identity between service to man and service to or worship of God. We are again and again rendered conscious that he was not constructing a 'kingdom that is not of this world'. This is the most marked characteristic in the sayings of Ramakrishna. He was a positivist, a teacher of worldly duties in the most emphatic sense. On the other hand, Ramakrishna's perpetual emphasis on the spirit and the soul is epochal. He has taught mankind that with this instrument, men and women can demolish the discouraging conditions of the surrounding world and transform them in the interest of the expansion of life. The freedom of personality is a concept by which Ramakrishna has succeeded in electrifying all classes of the human society. The diversity of paths in the moral world does not frighten him-it is rather the fundamental ground-work in his analysis of human behaviour. As a true servant of man he is profoundly convinced of the dignity of individual manhood and personality.
Sri Ramakrishna's religion of life does not consider itself to be adequate and complete until it has granted a franchise of self-expression and self-direction to the creative urges, morals and spiritual experiences of the 'other groups'- new races, strange faces, the minds of the great not-self. Nobody thus has been a more pronounced architect of the republic of religions than Sri Ramakrishna.
The teachings of Thakur, the Holy Mother and Swami Vivekananda have been soul stirring for me ever since my childhood. The very sight of the serenity in Thakur's and Ma's faces gives me all the solace I need in my moments of bitter disillusioned the power that exudes from Swamiji's countenance enables me to take up any work with courage and conviction.
The priceless treasure-chest of all of Thakur's teachings through his utterances and conversations take thousands of pages and innumerable volumes to be cast in print. through Sri Ramakrishna For You, I have merely attempted to present to all the readers a very concise and yet representative compilation of a few gems from his timeless utterances. The recollections of his disciples, contemporaries and admires have been included to add a very important dimension to this work. I think this book brings joy, bliss and ecstasy to your life.
