Relationship between Education and Industry and Opportunities thereafter

Education, if explained in a simple language is the bookish knowledge that we gather from early childhood, till the receipt of Degrees. These degrees are our passports to get hold of jobs with great perks leading to a comfortable life.

But have we ever asked ourselves whether that bookish knowledge is really good enough for our career! Or, do we need to have Industry Oriented Education which would be meaningful enough for the person concerned to achieve the pinnacle of his/ her career.

It is already past the time that we start thinking about merging Education with Industry. Basic education in schools is an absolute necessity beyond any doubt. But adding hands-on training or practical knowledge from school level itself would prove much more useful for a student, to decide his/ her future course of career.

This pattern of imparting Education can simply be termed as “Industry oriented Education”. And can be explained as learning traditional subjects like history, physics, mathematics, language in a way by which the knowledge can easily be applied to make a product operational.

Records say, India has the world’s largest population in the age bracket of 5-24 years. This number of about 500 million provides a great opportunity for the education sector. On the other hand, number of colleges and universities in India have reached 39,050 and 903, respectively in 2017-18. (*)

Education in India has thus become an important sector which attracted a huge amount of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflow. The amount being US$ 2.21 billion, from April 2000 to December 2018. (**)

With so much money and opportunities involved in the Education sector, we can no more restrict Education to books only. Moreover, true Education is beyond earning degrees. It is about inculcating moral values, positive thinking, helping to make the society a better place for all.
