As famous Canadian physician William Osler has rightfully said, “The good physician treats the disease, the great physician treats the patient who has the disease.” Every hero may not be a doctor, but every doctor is definitely a hero.

National Doctor’s Day is observed on July 1 to honour the legendary physician and West Bengal’s second Chief Minister Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy whose birth and death anniversaries coincide on the same day. In 1991, National Doctor’s Day was established by the Central Government. The theme of National Doctor’s Day 2019 is “Zero tolerance to violence against doctors and clinical establishment”. Every year the theme was announced by the Indian Medical Association. The first week of July 2019 will also be observed as ‘Safe Fraternity Week’.
