Out of the World

Something out of the world, quite literally!

Such a matter of pride it is for the entire nation. India scripted a new chapter in the history of space exploration with the successful launch of 104 satellites in a single mission from the spaceport at Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh. Seventeen minutes later, the rocket started placing the satellites into orbit, one by one with a time-frame of about eleven minutes.

How marvellous can science be. In our lifespan how much of the world and the universe do we get to know? But it is man who has found a way to a place that exists out of the world. It is a human mind that has discovered satellites and the method to send them to space.

104 satellites in one go is about three times what anyone had done before. The real significance of the launch lies in the fact that it allows ISRO to test its capabilities for multiple launches of small satellites. This is crucial if India wants to grab a slice of the global market for nano-satellites and micro-satellites, which is set to grow close to $3 billion in the next three years. Man is a miracle in himself, and that is why a human mind can create miracles.

In a moment of pride today, I remember the words of Neil deGrasse Tyson “There’s as many atoms in a single molecule of your DNA as there are stars in the typical galaxy. We are, each of us, a little universe.”
