I believe two things can change a nation – its youth and its technology.
It is an invincible combination. The Gen-Y has the boon of exposure to multiple opportunities. They are ready to explore, experiment and examine. They are innovative, adventurous and bold.
Young Indians are among the fastest in Asia today to embrace digital technology to express themselves and to connect with other communities. In the last one decade social networking has advanced drastically – from Yahoo Messenger to Gtalk and from Orkut to Facebook. Daily communication has shifted to other new platforms such as Google+ and Whatsapp – the latter recently snapped up by Facebook for a whopping $19 billion.
The world of business is quickly changing. Multinational corporations are not only dealing with entrepreneurial ventures in India but also investing in them. With a young, tech-savvy population, improved education and rapid growth, India is creating a consumer market deeply tied into mobility and connectivity. Young entrepreneurs are taking to the internet to start their own business ventures. Designers, freelance content writers, bloggers, web-designers, fashion designers, stylists, photographers and other professionals are going online to spread awareness about their endeavours and to interact with potential clients. Even for ventures like bakeries, cafes and restaurants the young entrepreneurs are doing a wonderful job online.
When I started off as a young entrepreneur more than thirty years ago, I too utilised technology to bring a positive change. Three decades later now, it is the digital era. There are ample of technological opportunities available, and it is technology that has turned the world into a global village.
So truly Sir Arthur C. Clarke had said, “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.”
