The Digital Chalk Talk!

For children of the 21st Century, the world is at their fingertips. They learn to innovate and create digitally. The development of internet has digitalized their world which rotates around laptops, mobile phones, tablets and several other modern devices.

Technology has transformed childhood swiftly yet creatively. Digital revolution is not just about engaging children in the sphere of entertainment, but also enhancing their knowledge. Digital learning is gradually shaping itself in the education system. Classroom teaching is no more restricted to textbooks and explanations on the blackboard, or writing down notes.

The traditional chalk talk is now improvised by practicing interactive methods supported by video presentations, practical demos, PPTs, and other e-learning methods. Interestingly, there is a challenge of newness and excitement around the utility of technologies and their educational implication that one learns. Inside and outside the classroom, e-learning contributes to develop skills like critical thinking, communication, creativity and problem solving. The method is not only time efficient but also improves the level of understanding by providing large volume of accurate data to the recipients.

Conventional teaching methods often stress out the curiosity in children. Infusing technology is a smart effort to develop a new and effective approach in learning. Although, learning is contextual and specific to situations, often audio-visuals bring in concreteness that enables learning to be more appreciative.

It has been observed that holistic methods of teaching when supported with digital media create a positive outcome. It’s time we reduce the digital divide and combine technology with traditional modes of learning.
